Outwood Academy Shafton, places students at the centre of everything it does, with a focus on creating a culture of success, a positive climate for learning, and increased student attainment, achievement and social and emotional development.
You will be required to support learning through the use of data, strategic intervention and monitoring in order to maximise student attainment. You will monitor all students in your year group, both academically and with behavioural issues. You will work closely with the Inclusion Co-ordinator, The Bridge and the Vice Principal Deep Support on Intervention Strategies, and targeting students for intervention. You will utilise the MIS system in order to track and intervene with serial internal truants or students who are consistently late for lessons. Your role will have emphasis on intervention and student tracking throughout the day using the school’s “Praising Stars ” system. You will attend case conferences and other meetings regarding students in your year alongside preparing referrals and reports for those students identified as needing intervention.
You will contribute to an atmosphere of respect, recognition, optimism, celebration and mutual support in the school which promotes equality within, and values the diversity of, the school community.
Outwood Academy Shafton is located in the village of Shafton near Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It is a mixed school for both girls and boys ages 11-16, the number of students is constantly growing and we have 1175 students currently on role. We are an increasingly popular choice of secondary school for families in the local and wider area and current Y7 intake numbers demonstrate that the school gained over 100 more students than the number leaving in Y11.

The academy was inspected in January 2018 and we were thrilled to announce the judgement of ‘Good’ in every category, with Overall Effectiveness also judged to be ‘Good’. Ofsted praised leadership in the academy stating that ‘Leaders have established a culture of high aspirations. They are relentless in their determination to see every pupil succeed’. In addition to this they noted the high expectations that staff set for students: ‘Standards of behaviour are high due to the rigorous implementation of the school’s code of conduct’ The judgement was a huge accolade for the academy and the community it serves and rightly recognises the transformation in outcomes for young people over the 3 years since joining Outwood Grange Academies Trust.
