At Outwood Academy Riverside we have high expectations because our children and staff deserve nothing less, are you somebody who would like to be part of this journey? If you genuinely love working with children, will go above and beyond for our young people and want to work as part of an inspirational and dynamic team that are proud to be creating local history, then we would love to hear from you.

We are looking to recruit a reliable, dynamic, and responsible Discovery Room Manager to support students who find mainstream school difficult and promote a positive learning environment. You will have a calm, clear, and consistent approach to dealing with young people.

The role involves working with students, primarily EAL students, who find mainstream school challenging. The successful candidate will plan, organise and deliver a range of opportunities for this focus group students. Raising their aspirations, developing effective behaviour for learning habits and reinforcing British Values. Additionally, you will work with class and subject teachers by drawing on your specialist knowledge and understanding of second language learning and bilingualism to develop the English language skills of students and improve their academic progress.

The ideal candidate will be able to establish good relationships with students, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding accordingly to their individual needs. You will need experience of working in an educational setting with 11-16 year olds, in addition to experience of working with students who have English as an additional language.

In line with the Government’s announcement, our academy is closed until further notice. However, we are still busily planning ahead for the forthcoming academic year and are excited about welcoming new recruits to come and join us. In place of academy based interviews, we have set up systems to ensure that alternative options are still available via Skype/video conferencing wherever possible. Every effort will be made to try and accommodate any specific requirements so that no-one is at a disadvantage. Understandably, visits to the school are not possible at present, however we are really keen to ensure that you have as much information to proceed with your application as possible, so if you would like a conversation about either the academy or the position please contact Angela McNeill, via email at a.mcneill@outwood.com who will be happy to assist.
